Ethnic disparity in intracranial hemorrhage among anticoagulated patients with atrial fibrillation: an answer in search of a question?
نویسنده
چکیده
troke due to intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) carries a igher morbidity and mortality than ischemic stroke, and it as been estimated that among persons 45 to 64 years of ge, 8% to 12% of ischemic strokes and 37% to 38% of emorrhagic strokes result in death within 30 days (1). The isk of ICH is increased among patients receiving heparin or arfarin, and the mortality of anticoagulant-associated ICH s approximately double that of spontaneous ICH (1–4). trial fibrillation (AF) is an independent risk factor for schemic stroke. It increases stroke risk about 5-fold, and his risk is significantly reduced by warfarin.

Anticoagulation strategies for the management of postoperative atrial fibrillation.
Patients undergoing thoracic and cardiac procedures are at the highest risk for postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF). POAF is associated with poor short-term and long-term outcomes, including high rates of early and late stroke, and late mortality. Patients with POAF that persists for longer than 48 hours should be anticoagulated on warfarin. Three new oral anticoagulants are available for ...
متن کاملIncreased IL-17A in Atrial Fibrillation Correlates with Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio
Background: Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and an independent risk factor for stroke among the elderly. A role for inflammation in the atrial remodeling as well as development and recurrence of AF is known. Objective: To compare IL-17A between patients with different types of AF and healthy individuals. Methods: IL-17A was measured in sera of 112 patients and 107...
متن کاملAssessment of P-wave indices as atrial fibrillation predictors in psoriasis patients
Background: Psoriasis is a prevalent chronic T cell mediated inflammatory skin disorder. Recent studies have reported an increase in the incidence of arrhythmia in psoriasis patients who run an excessive risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. P-wave dispersion (PWD) and duration are important electrocardiographic (ECG) markers employed to anticipate the risk of atrial arrhythmi...
متن کاملChallenging Management of Warfarinised Patients with Intracranial Hemorrhage Following a Head Injury: A Major Medical Dilemma
Introduction:The use of anticoagulant and ant platelet medications, especially warfarin and clopidogrel, is on a growing trend. Warfarin usage is commonly accompanied with hemorrhagic complications resulting in a noticeable mortality rate. Patient's ant coagulated with warfarin suffers from intracranial hemorrhage after a head injury. Materials and Methods: For the purpose of the study, the rel...
